TfL Data Breach Exposes Customer Data
Legal director Christine Sabino discusses the cyber-attack targeting TfL’s computer systems, which resulted in a damaging data breach that has exposed customer data.
After previously reporting that its computer systems had been targeted in a cyber attack, Transport for London (TfL) has now revealed that customer data has been breached as a consequence.
When discussing the initial cyber-attack, TfL’s chief technology officer Shashi Verma claimed that there was “no evidence that any customer data has been compromised.” An update to the situation published on September 12 has confirmed that this is not the case.
After conducting further investigations into the incident, TfL, in conjunction with the National Crime Agency, has identified that certain customer data was accessed during the cyber-attack.
The information exposed includes customer names and contact details, including email addresses and home addresses. Additionally, Oyster refund data, encompassing bank account numbers and sort codes for around 5000 customers have also been exposed.
TfL have noted that it will be contacting customers affected by the data breach as soon “as possible”.
If you have been contacted by TfL to confirm that your data has been compromised in the data breach, it is important that you understand your options, especially with regard to making a claim for data breach compensation.
